For the first time in Tulare County history there is a high school Football State Champion. The Strathmore Spartans defeated the Orange Panthers 31-29 to claim the D-6AA Title. With me on this week’s show is the State Championship winning head coach Jeromy Blackwell and four of his players, Joseph Garcia, Nick Salas, Noah Alcantar, and Jadon Guire.
Joseph and I talk about the biggest of his 40 carries and 223 yards. About how the having a running back like Joseph has helped the Spartans to a 30-1 record over the past two seasons, and how Joseph called the last play he would ever run for the Spartans.
Nick may have gone without completing a pass in the title game but he came up with a big reception to set up first and goal on the one yard line. We talk about how redemption feels on year after falling short in the title game. Blackwell and I talk about his leadership and charisma personality that has run the offense for the past couple seasons.
In a game that held few turnovers none were bigger than the interception by Noah Alcantar. Although late in position his interception led to the Spartans scoring their second touchdown. We talk how both Alcantar and his brother are now State Champions and how vital he has been to the defense with over a hundred tackles on the year.
Finally, we talk with lineman Jadon Guire. We talk about how difficult it was to play in the State Championship, how it feels to get redemption, and being a junior what expectations there are for next season.
All that and much more on this week’s episode of the Sportspeak Podcast.
